MUSICAL: A scene from Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Rock ‘n’ roll

Rock ‘n’ Roll is an entertainer with a group of musicians coming together after a long gap to compose film music. Directed by Ranjith, the film has Mohanlal in the lead role as Chandramouli. The story and script are by the director.

Chandramouli is an ace drummer. He is often on jaunts abroad performing with major percussionists and leads a playboy style of life. Sporting a pony tail and ear studs, he is playful and captures the attention of everyone. His buddies in Chennai want to have him around, but Chandramouli suddenly disappears.

Lal Jose, the hitmaker of Classmates, is in town. He is on the lookout for a new tune for his forthcoming film.

The director approaches Gunasekharan (Siddique), a leading musician who suggests Chandramouli’s name for drummer.

Even as the two rack their brains to locate him, Chandramouli comes out of the blue.

He is on a tight schedule and wants to leave the next day.

Together with Henry (Rahman) on the keyboard, tablist Balu (Harisree Asokan), violinist Isaac (Lal) and sound recordist Viswanathan (Mukesh), they try out many tunes with Meenakshi (Shwetha Menon) singing, but in vain.

Just then Diya Srinivas ( Lakshmi Rai) comes there as a playback singer. Chandramouli takes a liking to her and stays back in Chennai. With the support of Khadar Khan (Jagathy Sreekumar), the drummer plans something novel, to compose a song of his own. And the film takes an unusual turn.

It takes a dig at reality shows and tune lifters.

The cast includes Venjaramoodu Suraj, Manoj K.Jayan and Rohini. Manoj Pillai cranks the camera.
