Take up enumeration

The enumeration of residents in apartment complexes in Vijayawada needs focus.

There are about 125 apartment complexes in Moghalrajapuram area alone, which was neglected in the first phase of enumeration.

There are 6,000 families and about 12,000 voters residing in these complexes whose details have not been enumerated. Since apartment complexes are coming up in different parts of the city, the officials need to take up enumeration in these complexes too. Otherwise, the statistics will be lacking accuracy. The residents, from their part, should take initiative to get them enrolled as voters.

It is disgusting to note that the attitude of some conductors in city buses run by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is obnoxious.

Particularly, those who are discharging duties in city services on railway station route are leaving no stone unturned to put down commuters, who are coming to the city from different places. Instead of guiding them about the route and the bus stop whey the commuters have to get down from the bus, the conductors are belittling by just giving advises like “get down from the bus and take an auto-rickshaw.” Can’t the APSRTC authorities teach some lessons on manners and etiquette to their staff?

No lights

The bridge named after Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao at Puligadda was inaugurated last year and was being used by the public. But, no lights were provided on the bridge and at Puligadda junction as well.

As a result, people are afraid of travelling on the bridge after 7 p.m. I request the authorities concerned to arrange proper lighting facility on the bridge and at Puligadda junction, so that the bridge would be used round the clock by more and more people.

Doubts on project

The assertions of the State Government on irrigation project ‘Pulichintala,’ re-christened as K.L. Rao Sagar multipurpose irrigation project, would be commissioned by the end of next year and operational by March 2009, is a welcome news to the people of the region.

Notwithstanding the fact that Pulichintala is one of the 12 major irrigation projects likely to be completed by the end of 2008 or by March 2009, and the assurance of the Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmayya that he would stay at the project site to get it completed in time, doubts about the realistic thinking of the planners are bound to arise because there was a lapse of one year and only 17 per cent of the total work was completed so far.

On the other hand, the irrigation department is suffering from shortage of staff.

The project will come out in a good shape, only when the State government focuses on quality control.
