HYDERABAD: With Sunday being an auspicious day and several marriages being performed, the roads in the twin cities and several function palaces were teeming with people. In fact, so much was the traffic that many could not reach the venues on time especially at Bowenpally that has plush marriage halls. With vehicular traffic getting clogged on all roads be it Hasmatpet, Bapujinagar, Chinna Thokatta Bridge or Old Bowenpally, friends and relatives of the marriage parties could only reach the function halls a good hour-and-a-half late. If this annoyed the elderly, some marriage ceremonies missed the usual pomp since the musical band troupes could not reach on the scheduled time. Near the vegetable market in Hasmatpet and Bapujinagar, relatives of the bride and groom regulated traffic. The situation was worse at the Chinna Thokatta Bridge because of the ongoing construction work. Motorists maintained that the problem could have been averted had the police deployed more traffic home guards on the main roads. Since the vegetable market gets many trucks, the road was even more clogged with haphazard parking of the heavy vehicles. ACP (Traffic-I) N. Jaya Rao pointed out that the traffic movement was slow because there were marriages or receptions from dawn to dusk in all the 25 function halls in and around Bowenpally.
