Candlelight demonstration against domestic violence

Light of wrath: Women hold candles seeking gender justice on Tank bund on Sunday.

HYDERABAD: A candlelight demonstration on the Tank Bund by the Andhra Pradesh Coalition for Gender Justice on Sunday evening marked the beginning of 16 days of activism as part of the International Campaign Against Violence on Women and Girls, a press release said..

The 16-day campaign would be taken up across several districts, apart from the twin cities. Issues identified for improving awareness among people include domestic violence and implementation of the Act, sexual harassment of women and girl-child and of the single woman, particularly, said V. Usha Rani of ‘Sannihitha’, one of the organisations in the Coalition.

Other organisations were ‘Amanvedika’, ‘Maitri’, COVA, ‘Irthiqa’, Dalit Bahujan Mahila Samakhya, Dalit Stree Shakti, Human Rights Forum ‘Chatri’ and ‘Anveshi.’
