Exchange of ideas: J. Pratap Reddy, Director, Telugu Academy, addressing the literary meet in Tirupati on Sunday. TIRUPATI: The fourth day of the literary meet, ‘Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavaalu’, on Sunday saw an interesting discussion on the Telugu epics and other legendary works and their impact on the social façade since centuries. Presiding over the inaugural session, Telugu Academy director J. Pratap Reddy said one should have the penchant for speaking, reading and writing in one’s mother tongue and explained the futility of attempting to enforce it. In his speech on ‘Thikkana – Telugudanam’, Kota Venkata Lakshminarasimham explained how the translation of Mahabharata into Telugu not only shot Thikkana into fame, but also immortalized him. Kamisetty Srinivasulu, in his lecture on ‘Annamayya – Bhasha Chaitanyam’, eulogized the saint-poet . In the evening sessions, J. Mrunalini presided, while O.Sivasankara Rao spoke on ‘Prabandhalu – Bhasha Saushtavam’, P.Varija Rani on ‘Sathakapadyalu – Prayojakatha’ and Medipalli Ravikumar on ‘Mini Kavithalu’. G. Savitramma, wife of legendary playback singer Ghantasala, singer-actor T. G. Kamaladevi and litterateurs S. Sadasiva and C. Prasad were honoured. The dance ballet on ‘Sankranti’ by Bhagavathula Sethuram turned out to be the highlight of the day.
