PUDUCHERRY: The annual conference of the Puducherry Textile Mills Union affiliated to All India Trade Union Council (AITUC) held on Sunday adopted 15 resolutions, including a demand to bring the three government-controlled mills under one roof. The conference demanded bringing Anglo-French Textile, Sri Bharathi Mills and Swadeshi Cotton Mills under a unified administrative system. The administration of the mills should be handed over to experts drawn from the textile industry field, the resolution said. The Puducherry Textile Mills Union also urged the territorial administration to seek Rs. 500 crore for the modernisation of the mills. They also wanted the mill management to take steps to utilise the new equipment purchased to augment production. Client listThey also wanted the management to identify traditional customers of the mill who have recently opted out. Steps should be taken to bring them into the client list, the resolution said. Other resolutions included demands to seek implementation of unified dearness allowance system for the employees of the three mills and renewal of their pay scale. The resolution flayed the government for not revising the pay structure for the last 10 years. Earlier addressing the members, T. Murthi, secretary of All India Textile Workers Federation, said the government should take immediate steps “to save the decade old mills from extinction.”
