KOLLAM: A luxury sailing resort, Lake Princess, will begin her maiden backwater tourism cruise through the National Waterway III at 2 p.m. on Monday from the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) boat jetty here. The vessel will dock at Alappuzha, its destination, at 10 a.m. the next day. The cruise is a joint operation by the council and Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation Ltd., which owns the vessel. Lake Princess is an air-conditioned, six-bedroom vessel with 16 beds. There are four double-bed cabins and two cabins with four beds each. The vessel has a kitchen, a state-of-the-art sound system and a solar heater. Tourists can have a panoramic view of the backwater from the rooftop. K. Shirish, secretary of the council, said the cruise to Alappuzha would be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the return trip on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. He said the vessel would anchor at the Kayamkulam Lake at night and resume the cruise at sunrise. This was to enable the tourists to enjoy the visual treat of the backwaters. Lake Princess will accommodate only 16 adults. The rate is Rs. 1,500 a person and food and other costs work to Rs. 200 each.
