SHENZHEN (China): Scotland won its first World Cup golf title in dramatic fashion on Sunday, beating tournament frontrunner the United States at the third play-off hole. Eight-time European number one Colin Montgomerie and young gun Marc Warren went one better than last year when they lost a spirit-crushing playoff to Germany. Scotland has been World Cup runner-up six times, with the United States bidding for its 24th title in the storied tournament known as the Olympics of golf. Chopra loses play-offIndia-born Swede Daniel Chopra finished runner-up in the Australian Masters after being defeated on the fourth play-off hole by local favourite Aaron Baddley here on Sunday. Chopra (71) and Baddley (70) were tied for the lead at 13-under 275 after the final round.
Shiv Kapur tied 26th At the Casio Open in Kochi, Japan, Shiv Kapur played his best golf of the week for a final-round two-under 70 to finish tied 26th even as Jeev Milkha Singh’s one-under 71 saw him sign off tied 44th. Local favourite Taichi Teshima sank in birdies on the last two holes to return a seven-under 65 and win the title by one stroke with a total of 275. Overnight leader, Australian Chris Campbell (69), finished a stroke behind while Korean I.J. Chang (69) ended third with 277. Defending champion Jeev, whose title hopes were dashed after a disastrous 76 on Saturday, ended with a two-over 290. Kapur, on the other hand, finished with a level-par 288. Agencies
