Bangalore: Three women died of burns in as many incidents reported on Sunday. A 68-year-old woman died of burns that she suffered after her sari caught fire while she was offering prayers at her house in Domlur on Saturday. The police said Pushpalata was celebrating Kirudeepavali festival when her sari came in contact with the oil lamp placed near the Tulasi plant. She was immediately taken to Victoria Hospital, where she died on Sunday. The Ulsoor Police has registered a case. In the second incident, Kumaramma (20) set herself on fire after a fight with her relative in her Vasanthapura house in Subramanyapura police station limits on Friday. The police said she threatened her relative that she will commit suicide and doused herself in kerosene. She then lit herself. Passers-by who noticed the incident rushed Kumaramma to Victoria Hospital where she died on Sunday, the police said. Bhagyamma (55) died of burns that she suffered when a kerosene stove burst in her house in Gayatri Nagar in Subramanyanagar police station limits. The police said the incident occurred when Bhagyamma was cooking. Her neighbours admitted her to the Victoria Hospital. She died in the hospital on Sunday. The Subramanyanagar police have registered a case. Found deadA 30-year-old software engineer was found dead in his house in Ramesh Nagar in HAL Police station limits on Sunday. According to the police, Prajwal, a native of Moodbidri, was living with his wife Chaitali of Mysore. She left here for Mysore 10 days ago. She was speaking to Prajwal every night. When she called on Saturday, she found that Prajwal’s mobile phone was switched off. She called the landline and did not get any response. Then she called the house owner and asked him to check if all was well with Prajwal. The house owner tried to contact Prajwal and when he did not get any response, he went to the house and opened a window to see Prajwal hanging from a ceiling fan. The house owner informed the police. The HAL Police have registered a case of unnatural death. Chaitali told the police that Prajwal and she were married six months ago. SuicideA 45-year-old police constable died in the Victoria Hospital on Sunday where he was admitted after he consumed poison. According to the Madiwala Police, Shivashankar, working in the first battalion of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), consumed poison in his house in the KSRP quarters on Thursday. Neighbours admitted Shivashankar to the Victoria Hospital. AssaultSix persons allegedly assaulted a transport operator in Ambedkar Nagar in Electronics City police station limits on Saturday. According to the police, Rajappa was angry with construction labourer Kantaraju for “teasing” his daughter. A few days ago, Rajappa and his friends had reportedly assaulted Kantaraju. On Saturday, Kantaraju and five others allegedly assaulted an inebriated Rajappa. A complaint was filed by Rajappa’s wife with the Electronics City police. The police are on the lookout for the accused. BurglaryA gang of persons took away cash and gold ornaments from a house in RBI Layout in Tilak Nagar police station limits on Saturday. According to the police, the house owner Sunil was watching a music programme and had not locked the rear door of his house. The gang entered the house and took away with the cash and gold ornaments. In another incident, a information technology professional’s house was burgled in Kaggadasapura in Mahavadevapura police station limits on Saturday. The police said Sunil Kumar and his family left here for Thiruvananthapuram on November 14. When he returned on Sunday, he found that cash and gold ornaments were missing. The Mahadevapura police have registered a case. Arrested
The Bangalore Urban Forestry Division recently arrested two persons from Vellapadi, Salem district of Tamil Nadu, on the charge of illegally transporting sandalwood. Their names were given as Bakkiya Rajan and A. Kumaran. Officials of the division told The Hindu that they were arrested near Circle Maramma Temple in Malleswaram on Friday. The two had reportedly taken away the sandalwood logs from an IFS Officer’s quarters. As much as 52 kg of sandalwood worth Rs. 1 lakh was seized, sources said.
