Youth have a role in peace process, says Tarigami

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: Secretary of the Kashmir unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) M. Y. Tarigami on Sunday called upon youth to come forward and energise society for a positive future.

“Unemployment and insecurity have become very critical for our future. Unfortunately, these issues, which are directly linked to our survival, have been ignored by those who wield power, both at the Centre and the State” Mr. Tarigami said at a rally of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) at Kulgam in South Kashmir.

Animosity between India and Pakistan had not only impeded the socio-economic progress in the region but also played havoc with the lives of millions of poor people.

Domestic compulsions, either in Pakistan or in India, should not be an excuse for delaying and derailing the peace process.

Mr. Tarigami said: “We once again urge upon the authorities of both countries to rise above narrow considerations and strive for peace.”
