Over 400 schoolchildren participate in the 17th edition of the competition
BUDDING ARTISTS: At The Hindu Young World Painting Competition in Bangalore on Sunday. BANGALORE: The imagination of budding artists ran riot at The Hindu Young World On-the-Spot Painting Competition held at the St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School here on Sunday. Away from the monotonous drone of television programmes and braving the morning chill, over 400 children gave vent to their creative talents with a splash of colours. The 17th edition of the competition had children participating in two categories — juniors (classes IV to VII) and seniors (classes VIII to X). “Going to the school on a rainy day” was the topic for seniors, while the juniors recreated the “Deepavali scene.” Children unleashed their creative levels and experimented with colours to recreate their ideas on drawing sheets. The judges, Muni Mohan, Sathish S. and Paramesh N.P., from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat found it hard to choose the winners. “It was challenging. All of them have properly expressed their ideas. The choice and balance of colours were also good. However, many should improve in sketching,” Mr. Muni Mohan said. A.J.S. Lakshmishree from Bethesda School won the first prize in the junior category, while in the senior category, the first prize was bagged by Preethi M. Shet of Sri Vidya Mandir High School. Preethi said that she is a self-learner and excels in on-the-spot competitions. “You need no preparations for on-the-spot competitions. Many a times I have walked to the school on rainy days. Those memories are vivid and I found them easy to recreate,” said the 10th standard student. For Lakshmishree, the topic was easy as she had celebrated Deepavali recently. “For me, imagining was easy and I gave importance to all the details. The night sky, the sparklers, the ‘diyas’ are all there in my painting,” she said. Both Preethi and Lakshmishree received a cash prize of Rs. 1,250 each and certificates. Art critic S.N. Chandrashekar gave away the prizes to the winners. He appreciated the artistic skills of the participants. “If you pursue your talent, you can become good artists,” he said. In the junior category Pooja S. Kanade of MKET School, Harihar, won the second prize, while Manasa Vinod Kumar, National Public School, Rajajinagar, Bangalore, got the third place. Pooja received a cash prize of Rs.1,000 and certificate, while Manasa took home Rs. 750 and certificate. Lotte BooProo Liquid-Filled Bubblegum was the title sponsor of the event, while refreshments were sponsored by Real Juice from Dabur Foods. In the senior category, Sughosh S. Neergundh of Sri Cadambi Vidya Kendra won the second prize. He was given a cash prize of Rs. 1,000 and a certificate. Manasa C. of SPSSEM School, Davangere, who came third, received a cash prize of Rs. 750 and a certificate. Here is the list of consolation prize winners: Junior category — Renu P.B., N. Venkateshwara Reddy, C. Aishwarya, Disha Harish Jain, Rakshitha S., Ann Jacob and Muskan Singhal. Senior category — Manasa Divakar, Banusri M., Chandana V., Swetha S., Varnitha K., Vishesh U. Adiga and Swathi Sreeshan. They received a cash prize of Rs. 200 each and certificates.
