Best exhibit rolling trophy in science expo for Cluny student

PUDUCHERRY: Students of St. Joseph of Cluny Higher Secondary School participated in the regional-level science exhibition held in Puducherry recently and won the best exhibit rolling trophy at the higher secondary level.

Annu Jose Markose and Malathy of Standard XI won the rolling trophy for the best exhibit (urban region) and cash awards of Rs. 200 each. Sarumathi of Standard IX represented the school at the high school level and won the second prize under the education technology category. She was given a cash award of Rs. 180. G. Subriya of Standard VI, who represented the school in the middle school level, received a cash award of Rs. 150.

S. Nivetha and Amritha Ghosh of Standard IX won the third prize in the regional round of The Hindu Young World Quiz 2007 held in Puducherry on October 27. They were given a cash award of Rs. 2,000 each.

Chandramouleeswari of Standard VI participated in the 22nd Pondicherry State and 4th Tamil Nadu Yoga Sport Championships held on November 17 and 18 and secured the first prize in the special group event in the Standard VI category and second prize in the common group event under the same category.

Sharon Paul of Standard XII participated in the senior category of the Puducherry interschool National Anthem singing competition conducted by the Rotary Club of Puducherry and won the third prize. She got a cash award of Rs. 150. Sushmita of Standard IX got a consolation prize of Rs. 100 in the junior category.

State award for NSS officer

In the State-level under-13 chess championship tournament conducted by the Puducherry State Chess Association, a student of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School R. Hariharan of Standard IX D came first. He will represent Puducherry in the National under-13 tournament, which would be held in New Delhi in December. In the same tournament, M. Kathirvel of Standard VIII E came third, and S. Sivanesan of Standard VII H was placed in the fourth place. Father Pascal Raj, vice-principal of the school, congratulated the students on their meritorious performance.

At the 38th NSS Annual Day celebrations, T. Amala Joseph Edmond, NSS programme officer of the school, received the State NSS award from Joint Director of School Education R. Vanjulavalli for his meritorious service. Petit Seminaire students participated in the State-level Children’s Science Congress and presented projects on the mosquito menace in Lawspet and Thattanchavady, and on the biodiversity of molluscs on the Puducherry coast.

Saplings distributed to students

A student of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School V. Raghavan of Standard V D won the first place in the regional level in a painting competition on ‘energy conservation’ organised by the Ministry of Power, Government of India. He received a cash award of Rs. 10,000. He will represent Puducherry at the National-level competition to be held in New Delhi in December. D. Marie Samson of Standard IV-A won a consolation prize of Rs. 1,000. School principal R. Fredrick congratulated the prizewinners.

A total of 850 saplings were distributed to students of Standards VII to XII through the National Green Corps. The saplings were meant to be planted by the students in their homes.

The school celebrated Children’s Day on November 23 with former Joint Director of Education A. Ramadoss, the chief guest, giving the Children’s Day message and distributing prizes to winners of the various competitions held. Father S. Peter presided over the function and delivered the presidential address, after distributing sweets to the students.

T.L. Vishnu Prasad, parent of one of the school’s students, was the special guest. He addressed the students. M. Milind of Standard III and V. Subashree of Standard IV gave a speech on the significance of Children’s Day. Students presented various cultural programmes to mark the occasion.

Yogasana demonstration

At Achariya Bala Siksha Mandir Uppalam, 54 students participated in a yoga demonstration, which would be telecast on Sun TV from December 5 to 25 at 7 a.m.

S. Abirami of Standard IV represented the school in the regional-level science exhibition with a working model of an overhead tank with ‘autostop’ facility under the theme ‘water management’.

This week’s Alma Mater Subject + programme organised by Achariya Siksha Mandir, Puducherry, dealt with virtues and values imbibed in the formative years which are to be practised throughout one’s life.
