“Inculcate values among children”

Mylapore Academy’s celebration focusses on teachers and children

CHENNAI: Children and teachers were the focus of the Children’s Day celebration conducted at P.S. Higher Secondary School here on Saturday. The Mylapore Academy had organised a prize distribution for painting and fancy dress competitions it had conducted and felicitation of national and state winners of ‘best teacher’ awards.

The academy had organised the event, in association with Indian Overseas Bank, Kappa Charitable Trust, Singhvi Charitable Trust and Lions Club International District 324 A-1.

Madras High Court judge V. Ramasubramanian recalled participating in similar competitions organised by the academy as a child. Parents make all efforts to ensure that their child gets the best education but forget to inculcate values in them, he said. R. Kannan, Chief Vigilance Office, Madras Fertilizers Limited, recalled his stint at the archives and museums departments. Talent is often assigned to the museum, he rued.

The large number of participants showed that talent was available in plenty, said several speakers. Madras High Court judge M. Venugopal, IOB Madras region chief regional manager M.S. Prakash, Meenakshi College for Women principal K.S. Lakshmi and president of the academy Sarojini Varadappan participated in the function.

As many as 1,000 children participated in the painting competition in three categories - between L.K.G and Standard V, Standards VI to VIII and Standards IX to XII. About 200 participated in the fancy dress competition, with special children forming close to half of all participants.
