EMMRC’s series wins UGC award

MALAPPURAM: ‘Today in History,’ a documentary series produced by the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC) of the University of Calicut, has won the Best Series of the Year Award at the 19th University Grants Commission (UGC) National Educational Video Competition held in New Delhi recently.

The December 1 and December 11 episodes of the series, produced by Sheji R and Abdu Raoof A.I, respectively, were adjudged the best in the category from among 196 entries.

The award, carrying a purse of Rs.30,000 and a trophy, will be presented in New Delhi later this year.

Citation

The December 8 episode of the series won a citation in humanities, literature and communication category of the competition.

Conceived by Mr. Sheji, producer of the centre, the series portrays major events and issues of each day in recorded history through pictures, drawings and graphics. It is scripted by the producers in association with Syed Amjed Ahmed, director of the EMMRC. The graphic design for the series was created by Aneesh K.R.

The various episodes of the series were edited by Sasi Menon, Sathya Raj R and Banniesh M.

Since mid-2005, over 150 episodes of the series, produced by the EMMRC’s production team comprising Sheji R, Abdu Raoof A.I, Sajeed N, Rajeev T.K and Roger Bronson Rozario, have been telecast on DD1 and Vyas, the higher education channel of the University Grants Commission.

The series is also slated for telecast on DD Bangla from December 2007, Mr. Ahmed said.
