Dealers warned against resorting to malpractices Steps to ensure good quality inputs to farmers Kakinada: The Agriculture Department has targeted an average yield of 42 bags per acre of paddy in the ensuing rabi season and it is taking necessary steps to ensure supply of adequate quantity of farm inputs_ fertilizers, pesticides and seeds to reach the goal. In the Kharif season, the per acre yield was between 27 and 32 bags, said District Collector M Subrahmanyam. He was addressing a meeting of the dealers of fertilizers and seeds at Krushi Bhavan here today. Speaking on the occasion, he said paddy cultivation would be taken up in 2.1 lakh hectares in rabi and a total quantity of 1,49,231 metric tonnes of fertilizers is required. About 98,000 quintals of paddy seeds are needed for the season. The Collector warned that stringent action would be taken against dealers guilty of selling fertilizers at prices more than the MRP and resorting to other malpractices, under the Fertilizer Control Act of 1985. The quality of seeds cannot be compromised by dealers. Responding to grievances of dealers that were sometimes getting poor quality inputs imported through Kakinada port, the Collector said he would ask the officials of Legal Metrology to conduct regular inspections and take necessary action. Joint Director of Agriculture T Nandaiah, deputy directors I Ramakrishna Murty and B Satyanarayana and others took part.
