Raipur: Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday paid rich tributes to its departed leaders including Parliamentary secretary Mahesh Baghel, who recently died in a road accident near here. On the inaugural day of the winter session, the House also paid homage to the former minister Ashok Rao, and the former MLAs Jagmohan Das and Vasudev Chandrakar. The House observed silence for two minutes as a mark of respect for the departed souls following which Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey adjourned the House without transacting any other business. Tribal BJP leader Baghel was a member of the current House and passed away in a road accident on August 24, when his car turned turtle and caught fire. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh was joined by members from both the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress in remembering the contribution of these late leaders. In this winter session, the state BJP government plans to present the second supplementary budget and bring in a couple of legislations, including one to give official status to ‘Chhattisgarhi’ as an official language. — PTI
