The international body will institute an award PANAJI: The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to get recognition from Federation Internationale de la Presse Cinematographique (FIPRESCI), international federation of film critics, from the next film festival. The international body will institute an award at the IFFI, and has proposed to send a jury, also known as the International Federation of Film Critics Jury, to judge the films being screened at the 39th edition of the IFFI in Goa, Director of Film Festivals (DFF) Neelam Kapur said here on Sunday. ‘Open forum’Participating in an “Open forum” at the venue of the IFFI, Ms. Kapur said that the FIPRESCI was associated with 40 prestigious film festivals across the globe, including some in India. But the award would be instituted for the first time, she said. Ms. Nandini Paliwal, Chief Executive Officer of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), State Government’s entertainment body co-hosting the festival with the Directorate of Film Festivals under the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, said that the Entertainment Society of Goa had forwarded a proposal to the State Government for establishing a film city in Goa. “A lot of thought is going into making Goa a film hub,” she said during the course of discussion on “The IFFI venue”. InfrastructureStating that the organisers had to set standards for the IFFI, the Director of Film Festivals said that in terms of infrastructure for the IFFI in Goa, “the organisers are fairly comfortable”. On film culture in Goa, Ms. Kapur disclosed plans to get films to Goa to help the Entertainment Society of Goa develop and inculcate film culture in the State. CollectionThe collection comprised films screened during the past 37 film festivals in the Indian Panorama, besides over 3,000 films which had been restored and developed into new prints. Ms. Kapur said that the DFF and ESG desired to involve more film societies around the country in the IFFI. The people had to be facilitated to come to the venue, she said.
