Several injured in clash at engineering college

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Three Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists, a few students and two policemen were injured in clashes at the MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, on Monday.

The clashes were the continuation of fisticuffs on the campus last Thursday between members of the United Democratic Students’ Front and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI).

The students first clashed with the DYFI activists and later with the police, who chased them away.

The DYFI men turned against the police for allegedly helping a section of students.

The students gathered in the hostel and hurled stones at the DYFI men and the police. Iron rods and two sharp weapons were seized in a police raid on the hostel premises.

N.V. Salam, SFI district committee member; Rashid, local reporter of Desabhimani; and Suresh Babu, DYFI activist, have been admitted to hospital with injuries. The motorbikes of two students were destroyed.
