PUDUCHERRY: A. S Khan, belonging to the 1977 batch of Indian Police Service, will take charge as the first Director-General of Police of the Union Territory in the next few days, according to sources in the Police Department. Post upgradedThe Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had recently upgraded the existing post of Inspector-General of Police to DGP post. K. Kishan Kumar, who was holding the post of IGP, had been transferred back to Goa. He was relieved from the post on last Friday and had already left for Goa. Mr. Khan who was currently serving in the Delhi Transport Corporation had been promoted as Additional Director-General of Police to charge of the DGP post. The order says “the present post of IGP has been upgraded temporarily.” According to sources, the reason for upgrading the post was purely administrative to accommodate promoted officers. The decision to upgrade the post was pending for a long time as was done in other Union Territory’s, sources said.
