THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Land recovered from encroachers will be distributed to the landless, including tribals, or used for developmental purposes, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has said. In a statement here on Monday, the Minister said that the government had recovered 5666 hectares. However, part of these had been encroached upon again at several places in Idukki district and elsewhere. The land mafia was behind these encroachments. The government had issued strict directives to the Collectors to take strong action against them. Mr. Rajendran said that steps to resume 2428 hectares from encroachers were nearing completion. Besides this, some more areas have been identified for eviction. Land evicted of encroachers in urban areas would be used for income-generating projects of the government.
