27 doctors suspended

36 doctors attached to NRHM report for duty
Police team to verify records of shop owners

SABARIMALA: The strike by government doctors continues to affect health care facilities at Sabarimala. According to District Medical Officer N.N. Murali, though 30 government doctors were issued posting orders, only one of them reported for duty on Monday. Dr. Murali reported the matter to the Director of Health Services.

He said 27 doctors were suspended from service pending inquiry for failing to turn up for the duty. Five of them were attached to hospitals in Pathanamthitta.

The DMO said 36 doctors attached to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM)reported for duty by Monday afternoon, besides a specialist from a private medical college.

Police special team

A five-member police investigation team reached Sabarimala on Monday to collect fingerprints and photographs of all employees and workers at Sabarimala. According to police sources, the team will also verify the photo identity cards and addresses of all the casual labourers and staff at various shops as part of the security arrangements at the pilgrim centre.

The team’s visit is on the directive of the District Superintendent of Police K.G. James on the basis of an intelligence report.

Police helpline

Police Special Officer P. Vijayan said a police helpline and control room would be opened at Sannidhanam on Tuesday. The TDB eased the regulation in the supply of Aravana from Monday by permitting to sell 10 cans per person. TDB sources said four lakh flip-lids from Taiwan would reach Sannidhanam on Wednesday. The TDB has also opened a special Aravana counter exclusively for the staff on duty.
