Congress wants investigation into ‘irregularities’ in Government

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has impressed on Governor Rameshwar Thakur to review all the important decisions taken by the H.D. Kumaraswamy and the B.S. Yeddyurappa Governments. It said a full-fledged judicial inquiry or an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation should be ordered into the irregularities, if any.

KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge told presspersons here on Monday that the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) were accusing each other of indulging in irregularities and siphoning of public money. All that the Congress had stated in the past 20 months, over certain grave irregularities of the coalition Government, both on the floor of the legislature and outside, were now being expressed by the two coalition partners who at that point of time were together in defending the actions of the Government.

A high-level Congress delegation called on the Governor on Sunday and requested him to order an inquiry that could facilitate not merely criminal action against the people involved, but also enable the people of the State to know the facts. Mr. Kharge said politics in Karnataka had been brought to a very low level by the BJP and the JD (S). The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has openly accused BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa of seeking a sum of Rs. 5 crore to pay of a loan that he had obtained from the BJP General Secretary, Ananth Kumar. He had, said Mr. Kharge, sought the money in exchange for crossing over to the JD (S), along with a group of BJP legislators. “Mr. Yeddyurappa has not reacted to this charge although he has levelled charges against Mr. Kumaraswamy. The Congress is happy that the people of the State will now be aware of the facts,” he said.
