BANGALORE: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and the Green Brigade activists on Monday staged a demonstration in the city urging the Centre to dismiss the West Bengal Government for its alleged atrocities on Nandigram farmers.

Several activists sat on a dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on Mahatma Gandhi Road and raised slogans against the West Bengal Government, accusing it of killing innocent farmers.

Violence

Addressing the protesters, Raitha Sangha President Kodihalli Chandrashekar said that since the past one year the Leftist Government in West Bengal had resorted to “violent measures” to curb the Nandigram farmers’ agitation. Mr. Chandrashekar said the Leftist Government was claiming that it was pro-farmer and labourer. “The recent acts by the Government have showed that it was no different from Gujarat’s Narendra Modi Government,” he said.

The protesters also urged the Uttar Pradesh Government to “immediately and unconditionally” release the arrested octogenarian farmer leader Chowdry Mahendra Singh Tikait.

Demonstration

The Praja Vimochana Chaluvali activists on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) office on Mahatma Gandhi Road, demanding restoration of power supply to houses at Govinda Shettypalya in Konappana Agrahara Panchayat limits on Hosur Road.

The protesters said that the area coming under Govinda Shettypalya had been illegally taken over by NICE and the company had written to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) to stop power supply to houses in the area. They urged NICE authorities to take back the letter it had written to BESCOM.
