Conflicting reports over fever deaths

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Viral fevers in Adilabad and a few other tribal areas of the State have claimed several lives, according to a Minister, but the Health Department claims that not a single death has been reported so far.

Labour Minister G. Vinod, who recently toured the affected areas in the forest belt of Adilabad district, along with Family Welfare Minister S. Chandrasekhar, estimated the toll due at more than 90 whereas the Health Department issued a bulletin, denying any death had taken place either on account of viral fevers or due to malaria. Unconfirmed reports, however, suggest that more than 200 people died of fevers in tribal areas alone.
