“Solve power cut crisis in State”

Staff Reporter

Electricity Board Workers’ United Union plea to Government

RAMANATHAPURAM: Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Workers United Union has urged the State Government to take urgent steps to solve the present crisis of power cuts in the State.

A resolution to this effect was passed at the executive committee meeting held here on Sunday.

It said the people were subjected to untold hardship following the unannounced power cut.

The crisis should be set right as soon as possible and uninterrupted power supply should be restored immediately.

If the problem was not solved immediately, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board should announce the power cut officially, so that people could take precautionary steps to complete their routine work.

Through another resolution, the union asked the TNEB to fill vacancies such as wireman, commercial assistant, electrical inspector, commercial inspector and others in Ramanathapuram. Though the union had held several talks with the officials to impress upon the need to fill the vacancies, steps had not been taken to fill up the vacancies.

The union would stage protest on 10th December if the vacancies were not filled within December 7.

The meeting also urged the TNEB to come forward to provide 10 percent remote allowance to the workers of Vazhuthur plant on the line of workers of Thirumakottai plant.

The TNEB should shun the practice of outsourcing for the Vazhuthur plant and appoint permanent employees.

The meeting, which was attended by C.R. Jagadheesh, president, and V. Nadarajan, secretary of the union, urged the Government to construct houses for the employees of Vazhuthur plant immediately.

The executive meeting also decided to convene a state general body meeting at Ramanathapuram on December 8 and 9.
