Farmers assured of fertilizers at government-fixed price

Staff Reporter

Tuticorin: The district administration has assured the farmers in the district that they would be supplied fertilizers at rates fixed by the government for the ensuing crop seasons during this fiscal.

Collector R. Palaniyandi said that every 50 kg bag of urea was priced at Rs. 251.27, DAP at Rs.486.51, potash at Rs.231.69, super phosphate at Rs.162.81, NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, potash) 10:26:26 at Rs.435.28, NPK 16:20:0 at Rs.369.64, NPK 20:20:0 at Rs.379.02 and NPK 17:17:17 at Rs.421.74.

He said that 743 tonnes of urea, 640 tonnes of potash, 102 tonnes of super phosphorous, 47 tonnes of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, potash) 10:26:26, 102 tonnes of NPK 20:20:0, and 42 tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), had been stocked at 64 private outlets and 23 co-operative societies in the district as on Monday.

The farmers should opt for a mixture of 43 kg of urea, 100 kg of super phosphate and 33 kg of potash for every acre of paddy cultivation instead of DAP, wherever there was a short supply of DAP.

Dispelling the fears by and large existed in the farming community, Dr Palaniyandi said that percentage of nitrogen and phosphate in the DAP produced domestically and in the lot imported was same.

Mr. Palaniyandi said that action would be taken against salesmen who were indulging in malpractices.
