Doctors seek CM’s intervention
MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association (TNGDA) has sought the intervention of Prime Minister and the Chief Minister to shelve the proposal to increase the duration of MBBS course and insisting rural service for medical graduates.
It decided to oppose the proposal and join hands with Indian Medical Association- Tamil Nadu unit in seeking an appointment with the Union Health Minister to convey its opposition.
In a press statement here on Monday, K. Senthil, State Secretary of the association, said that the proposals were against the interests of the medical field in general and the best brains aspiring to take up medical profession in particular.
“The allegation of the Union Health Minister that doctors avoid rural service is a wild and baseless one. Like any other profession, doctors too require basic living conditions,” he said.
Urging for Chief Minister’s intervention to solve the problem, Dr. Senthil said that rural service for medical graduates could be insisted with attractive pay and allowance.
The association called for giving marks to rural service at the time of postgraduate entrance examinations by the Central Government since that will have a desired impact. A State Executive Committee meeting of TNGDA will be held at Tiruchi on December 2.
