Restore peace in Assam: CPI(M)
Staff Reporter
Kolkata: The West Bengal CPI(M) has appealed for restoration of peace in Assam and demanded punishment for those responsible for Saturday’s violence in Guwahati.
In a statement here, CPI(M) State Secretary Biman Bose said his party supported the “just demands” of the All Adivasi Students’ Association, Assam for the inclusion of the Adivasis in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
He accused the State administration of not having made any attempt to control the violence that erupted in the course of the rally.
He said the incidents could have been avoided had the administration acted in time.
Efforts have to be made to stem the unrest spreading to other States following the incidents, the statement said.
