dated November 27, 1957: U.K., French talks

Mr. Harold Macmillan and M. Pierre Gaillard, British and French Prime Ministers, failed at two sessions of talks in Paris on November 25, to reconcile Anglo-French differences over the “arms for Tunisia” crisis. According to a French spokesman, the first session of the talks took place in an atmosphere of great frankness, but a common point of view on Tunisia and North Africa had not yet been reached. After the second session, a British spokesman said, “No conciliation has yet been reached following the British delivery of arms to Tunisia,” carried out in the face of French opposition.
