Excise posts win
KOCHI: Two goals in a three-minute spell in the first half helped defending champion Central Excise, Kochi, defeat Cochin Port Trust 2-1 in a Group ‘B’ match of the second Dronacharya Trophy Navy Day all-Kerala football tournament at the Fort Kochi Parade Ground on Monday evening.
The teams looked equal early but Excise’s two quick goals, through Hanson (28th minute) and Vineeth Antony (30th), rattled Cochin Port. The Port men regrouped nicely in the second session but Saral Thomas missed an easy chance in the 48th minute. Half hour later came Cochin Port’s consolation goal, through T.S. Anuj.
The match was the first for both the teams in the group. — Principal Correspondent
