Blaring music, rude conductor

On November 13, I travelled from Velankanni to Tiruvarur in a Tiruchi-bound bus which carried more than seventy passengers. Music was being played at a high volume in the bus TN 49-1591. This was inconveniencing all passengers and mobile phone users could not hear the their callers. I too could not take a call _ that was to convey my uncle’s demise. I came to know of it only after I got down from the bus. When a passenger asked the conductor to reduce the volume, he used unparliamentary words. The Government must not allow transport authorities to use audio and video. More priority would be given for communications. Will the authorities concerned take prompt action to eliminate this menace?

Inconvenient post offices

A sub-post office which was functioning at Ramanathan Hospital junction in Thanjavur town was shifted to the end of Rethna Colony a few years ago. As the location is not on the main road, residents of the vast extension areas are not able to use it. Just like this, a sub-post office is present inside the Rajah Serfoji Government Arts College campus near the new bus stand. If these post offices are shifted to places where a large number of people move about (such as Ramanathan Hospital area and the new bus stand area), people can easily make use of it. This would also avoid heavy rush in the head post office.

Politicians must preserve peace

The twin murders that occurred on the same day at Koradachery in Tiruvarur district (murder of the DMK district secretary) and at Chengalpattu (an AIADMK functionary) have sent shocking signals. They reflect the fact that moral standards have touched the lowest ebb. Following the last elections to local bodies, enmity has become grave, leading to many murders of local body representatives. The politicians have a responsibility to safeguard peace so that the reputation of Tamil Nadu as a peaceful state can be preserved.

Police must be transparent

After the violent incidents of burning of buses and shops in Koradachery and other parts of Tiruvarur district following the murder of Tiruvarur district DMK secretary, the police had assured stringent action against all those involved in these incidents. We do not know how many people have been arrested so far. I request the police to come out with facts. The police should take stringent action, irrespective of political affiliations.

Full of craters on Bypass Road

The Kumbakonam Bypass Road in Thanjavur town is full of craters and potholes and is a nightmare for vehicle users. One has to see the poor condition of this road which is being used by a large number of vehicles round the clock. I request the authorities to take steps on a war footing to repair this road.

Admirable scheme

This has reference to the report, that “the surgical expenses of 103 school going children in Tiruchi district identified with Cardiac problems would be covered under a special scheme called “Vazhvoli thittam” by the State Government. The district administration, Tiruchi, would forward a recommendation to the state government, to extend the financial support up to Rs,70,000 to the children towards surgical expenses. We must admire this unique scheme of Tamil Nadu government and can even suggest to government to advise the 12.5 lakh government employees in our state, to contribute Rs.100 each every month to Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund which will achieve an annual target of Rs.150 crore from which the financial assistance to this scheme could be sanctioned liberally by the government. It will, besides helping the ailing poor children in our State, also benefit government employees with an annual deduction of Rs.1,200 from the taxable income for income tax as their annual incomes have risen manifold after the merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with pay as ‘dearness pay’ and the successive instalments of dearness allowance. Will the government do the needful?

R.S. Moorthy,

Karur.

Bus stop needed

Srinagar Colony roads are in a very bad condition. Swamimalai and Aduthurai town buses are plying through this route. If the roads are re-laid, it will be convenient not only for the residents but also to the travelling public.

Will the Government do this?

All town buses originating from Aduthurai and bound for Kumbakonam may be routed through Srinagar Colony area making SRVS Depot as a bus stop. This will reduce traffic congestion at Nall Road.

K. Santhanam,

Kumbakonam
