In solidarity: A mammoth gathering of disabled persons at the ‘Vikalangula Garjana’ organised in Hyderabad on Monday HYDERABAD: A large gathering of persons with disabilities on Monday sought to press their demand for Government to increase the pension from the current Rs. 200 to Rs. 1,500, apart from giving them the dignity and recognition they deserved. Titled ‘Vikalangula Garjana’ (Roar of the disabled), the public meeting at the Nizam College grounds was an initiative taken by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) through Vikalangula Hakkula Porata Samithi (VHPS), a struggle committee for the rights of the disabled. Addressing an impressive gathering, MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga regretted that successive Governments that ruled the country for 60 years since Independence had not bothered to address the needs of the physically challenged. “Governments should realise that those without a limb or two cannot even do physical work and the disabled need support in the form of alternative employment”, he said. There was a huge response from the crowd when balladeer Gaddar sang revolutionary songs.
