PATHANAMTHITTA: The Pilgrim Amenity Centre, constructed at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), on the banks of the Achencoil river at Pandalam is now in a neglected state. Neither pilgrims nor others visit the centre that houses retirement facilities, leaving the ambitious tourism venture a sheer waste of public exchequer. The centre houses a spacious conference hall, dormitory, four bed rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a lounge, 18 toilets and a sprawling courtyard. Local people allege that the centre is now a safe haven for anti-socials.
