Teams with best projects will be sent to Sweden Last date for submitting entries is January 31 Bangalore: The fossil fuel-burning car, one would imagine, is an anathema to any environmentalist. But here is the Volvo Car Corporation joining hands with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for Volvo Adventure 2008, which is a “global educational programme that rewards environmental activities among the decision makers of the future.” Volvo Adventure Competition, a global internet-based environmental education programme, encourages schoolchildren aged between 13 and 16 to take on environmental projects to improve their local environment. The projects will be published on www.volvoadventure.org. And better still, the teams with the best projects will be rewarded with an all-expenses paid trip to Sweden to compete in the global finals where the “Volvo Young Environmentalists” will be chosen. Eric Leblanc, Managing Director, Volvo, in India is pleased with the participation he has seen from India in the past: “We have had the opportunity to meet many Volvo Adventure finalists from India, and feel assured that if we listen to them, our future is secured. We now look forward to the next set of ideas and actions that these young people bring to the table.” The last date for posting projects on the site is January 31. The event will be followed by an environment seminar on February 6 in Bangalore. For details, call 2558 9122 or visit www. volvoadventure.org
