Crackdown on FAR norms violation

Staff Reporter

Kochi: The district administration is gearing up to crack the whip on builders who are guilty of violating Floor Area Ratio (FAR) norms.

District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish will directly hold an inquiry into the issue. Gross violation of FAR norms in the heart of the city came to the notice of the government, Mr. Hanish said.

The Collector said that he would closely examine all relevant documents in the possession of the Town Planning Department and the town planning wing of the Kochi Corporation.

He said that many major builders were among the list of suspected culprits. Whether the violation had taken place with the connivance of the officials would also be looked into, he said.

Besides, construction of buildings alongside water bodies violating specifications of distance from riverbanks would also come under the scanner, the Collector said.
