Tamil Nadu
The road between Moondru Mavadi and Ayyar Bunglow is in a bad condition for the past one year. Vehicles pass through this stretch with great difficulty. So it would be better if the Panchayut Union take up patch work immediately. M. Sundararajan, Madurai. Operate night bus serviceAs numerous colonies like Tiruppalai, Oomachikulam are developing fast on New Natham Road, night bus service has become a necessity. Hence I request the transport department to introduce buses during night between Peryiar Bus stand and Oomachikulam. Mini buses may be allowed to ply in the night, if there is a shortage of buses with the department. A. Vivekanantham, Madurai. Clear pavements of vendorsHard and fast rules should be strictly adhered to by traffic police in Madurai or otherwise, it will go out of their control. Cyclists and tricycles still pass through AV Bridge despite the presence of police personnel near the Thevar statue. Secondly, public never use the platform to walk due to the encroachment by vendors, who station their vehicles on the pavements. This also results in traffic jam on all main streets. Thirdly, the police should come forward to evict platform vendors. I request the Commissioner of Police to intervene in this matter and maintain the city neat and clean. R.G. Rethinam, Madurai. Madurai passport officeThe opening ceremony of the Madurai Passport Office is delayed for several months. As per media reports it was due to function from October 2007. It is also said that the building and the infrastructure is ready to house the office. The officials concerned should take necessary steps for the early opening of the passport office at least by next month. S. Balakrishnan, Madurai. Domestic waste from Railway ColonyRecently, I went to the Madurai Railway Station, through the entrance on the western side and virtually had to run to escape the unbearable foul smell around the area. On inquiry, I came to know that the drainage water and the septic tank wastes of Railway Colony get collected in the well through an open channel and pumped out into open sewage, leading to unacceptable, unhealthy, hazardous conditions. What is intriguing is the fact that this unhygienic practice, causing damage to Public Health is practiced, near the Divisional Railway Manager’s Office and the Railway Hospital. Will the authorities initiate permanent corrective action in this regard? C.D. Tony, Madurai. Train ticket booking counterStudents and staff of Madurai Kamaraj University, Vellaichamy Nadar College and public residing in Checkanoorani and Nagamalai Pudukottai would find it convenient if a computerised reservation counter for train ticket is opened on the Madurai Kamaraj University complex, at the earliest. R. Pandithurai, Madurai.
