Restore Parliamentary constituency status: CPI(M)
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: The Transport Sub-committee of the Communist Party of India–Marxist (CPI-M) has urged the Election Commission to restore the Parliamentary constituency status for Pudukottai for ensuring expeditious redressal of public grievances.
A resolution adopted to this effect at its meeting held here recently, said that it was unfair to deprive the district of an identity it had been assigned decades ago.
The electorate would be put to a great hardship, as the Delimitation Commission had carved the constituency into four segments.
Another resolution urged the State Government to allot funds for the execution of the ‘Coleroon Surplus Diversion Scheme’ to benefit both Tiruchi and Pudukottai districts.
While Tiruchi district would be spared of the havocs of floods, the diversion would ensure assured irrigational facility through the system tanks in Pudukottai district. The meeting, through a resolution, urged the Rural Development and the Highways Departments to re-lay the roads for smooth operation of bus services in the mofussil and rural areas.
The president of Transport Corporation Employees’ Union, affiliated to the CITU, Peri. Kumaravel and the Town secretary of CPI (M) T. N. Natarajan were among those who spoke.
