NEW DELHI: The debate on the India-United States nuclear deal in the Lok Sabha has now been scheduled for Wednesday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the House on Monday evening. Last week, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs had indicated that the debate would take place on November 27 or afterwards. Apparently, November 27 did not suit the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has planned the start of its election campaign on that date with almost all central-level leaders participating in that campaign. Almost all the BJP leaders will be in Gujarat on Tuesday. Although the Business Advisory Committee of the Rajya Sabha is yet to meet, December 3 is being talked about as the date for the debate. This would have to be finalised by the BAC. A Bill to replace the ordinance on unauthorised constructions in Delhi is expected to be taken up on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha. Several political parties have also demanded a discussion on internal security in the context of the recent bomb blasts in Uttar Pradesh. This is likely to be taken up on December 1. The other issues on which the Communist Party of India wants discussions are price rise and the need for harmonious relations between the executive, legislature and judiciary. Party leader Gurudas Dasgupta is believed to be pressing for these issues to be taken up.
