New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted the Centre further time to furnish the true and correct English translation of the order passed by an Argentine court rejecting India’s plea for extradition of the Bofors case accused Ottavio Quattrocchi. A Bench consisting of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justices R.V. Raveendran and J.M. Panchal accepted a request made by Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam, who said, “We need some more time for the purpose of true and correct translation of the order from Spanish to English.” Though the English copy was available, it required to be fine-tuned, he said. The Bench posted the matter to January 2008. It was hearing an application filed by advocate Ajay Agrawal, seeking a direction to the government and the Central Bureau of Investigation to submit all documents relating to Mr. Quattrocchi’s extradition from Argentina. The court on August 20 asked the Centre to translate, within four weeks, the June 8 order of the El Dorado court declining India’s plea for extradition of the 69-year-old Italian businessman. He was detained on February 6 and was released on bail on February 23.
