Government urged to support MSP struggle
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Ryotu Sangham has demanded that the State government join hands with the agitating farmers’ unions in mounting pressure on the Centre to enhance the minimum support price of paddy to Rs. 1,000.
In a statement, Ryotu Sangham president K. Ramakrishna expressed concern that millers and traders were not willing to part with the bonus amount to the tune of Rs. 30 crore due to farmers. He urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to take steps to ensure that Rs. 100 bonus announced by the Centre to paddy farmers reached them properly. He recalled that Dr. Reddy refused to concede a similar demand earlier by farmers’ organisations.
