PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) on Tuesday demanded enhancement of the Minimum Support Price of paddy to Rs. 1,000 for the benefit of farmers in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. PMC founder P. Kannan told reporters that the party would launch an agitation against the Puducherry government and the Union government if the minimum support price is not announced within a week. Criticising the territorial administration for its inaction in taking steps against gangs operating from Puducherry region, Mr. Kannan said that it had reached a situation where Tamil Nadu police had to enter the territory to nab culprits wanted by them. He reiterated the party’s demand for enforcing Goondas Act to control the activities of organised gangs. He also flayed the administration for maintaining silence about introducing Goondas Act even after all major political parties had spoken in its favour. He announced the appointment of Arthi Selvanathan as president of women’s wing and Vettri Selvam as president of the youth wing of PMC.
