‘Implementation of schemes in election year crucial for any Government’ Minister stresses need for publicising the schemes executed ANANTAPUR: A day-long review of various rural development schemes being implemented under the aegis of DWMA and IKP by Minister for Rural Development, NREGS and SHGs G. Chinna Reddy here on Tuesday turned out to be a political affair rather than an official meeting. The Minister clearly asked the officials and other functionaries of the two agencies to work with renewed vigour and sincerity to make all the rural development schemes a big success, in the first meeting that was extended up to four hours. Implementation of the schemes for the past three-and-half years was one aspect, but implementing them for the next one-and-half year, a run-up period for the next assembly elections, was an altogether different proposition, the Minister said in unequivocal terms. Reputation of the government built-up so far would hinge largely on the work to be done from now on, he said. The Minister instructed the officials of the two agencies as well as other functionaries, particularly those working at field level, to explain the beneficiaries that the benefit they had been enjoying or received was “given by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Congress Government”. “Most of the beneficiaries still think that the benefits they have received were given by the immediate implementing officer or the functionary and not the Government. It is the duty on part of you all to tell them that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has given the benefits”, Mr. Chinna Reddy told the participating officials. Implementation of the schemes in the election year was very crucial for any Government, he reminded the officials and urged them to get good name for the Government with hard work. He also felt that all the good work done so far in the matter of rural development needed publicity so that people were enlightened. Later, the Minister asked the same in the meetings with the functionaries of Grama Aikya Sanghams and Mandala Samakhyas, separately. It was in their hands to tell people about the Government achievements in the schemes they were participating in, he said. Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy told the officials not to complain about the workload.
