Student caned, admitted to hospital

VIRUDHUNAGAR: A 13-year-old student of a government-aided school, M. Gurumoorthy, caned by his Social Science teacher for scoring low marks in an examination held on Tuesday, was admitted to the Government hospital here on Wednesday.

He complained of fever and swelling on his back, left hand and legs.

According to the police, the teacher caned 15 students of Standard VIII for scoring low marks in the examination. The Virudhunagar West police are investigating. — Staff Reporter
