HSL completes work on dredger

VISAKHAPATNAM: Hindustan Shipyard Limited has completed major modification of Dredger XII belonging to Dredging Corporation of India (DCI).
After completing the work, the vessel was flagged off by General Manager, Ship Repair Division of HSL R.B. Rao here on Tuesday.
Similar modification work will be taken up on Dredger XIV shortly.
The technology and required equipment was obtained from the original designer and builder of the dredger IHC, Netherlands.
The modification involved replacement of the existing bottom doors of the dredger with sophisticated valve type doors of latest design.
The rectangular bottom doors were prone to develop leaks, which were adversely hitting the dredging operations.
Work of this nature was carried out for the first time in an Indian shipyard.
HSL’s success also helped DCI not only to save time but also cost in terms of foreign exchange.
