Move to check illegal sand transportation to Chennai

NELLORE: In a bid to check illegal transportation of sand from Nellore to Chennai, the Police, Transport, Revenue and Mines departments have together plunged into action by forming tracking teams.
“With complaints pouring in about rampant illegal transportation of sand to Chennai by lorries from Penna, Swarnamukhi and other rivers in Nellore district, all the departments have decided to put a check on the malpractice. Accordingly, special teams, which comprise officials from the four departments, have been formed.
The district administration has also decided to take action, including cancellation of licence, against errant sand-reach contractors.
