JD (S) rank and file confused
Staff Correspondent
BIJAPUR: The rank and file of the Janata Dal (S) appear to have been at crossroads ever since the party leadership decided to go back on its commitment to support the B.S. Yeddyurappa-led Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government last week.
Many of the senior leaders, including district unit president Mallikarjun Yandigeri and the former MLC, S.D. Karpoorimath, who is a senior vice-president of the State unit of the party, are followers of the former Deputy Chief Minister, M.P. Prakash, who has called a meeting of like- minded members on November 28.
It comes a day before the proposed meeting by the former Prime Minister and party president H.D. Deve Gowda.
However, the senior leaders are in dilemma over these meetings. The sources said the former Minister, Vimalabayi Deshmuk, the former MLAs, Vilasbabu Almelkar and N.S. Khed, also decided to be neutral for the time being.
However, the party’s lone member from the district in the now dissolved Assembly, R.K. Rathod, and Opposition Leader in the zilla panchayat Panchappa Kalburgi have stated that they will attend the meeting called by Mr. Deve Gowda.
The former Minister, M.C. Managuli, who is also one of the vice-presidents of the State unit, is scheduled to attend the official meeting. However, he has kept his options open.
