Chitradurga: Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Deve Gowda and his sons wanted B.S. Yeddyurappa to become subservient to their political needs, Bharatiya Janta Party State general secretary S. Suresh Kumar has said. Addressing the party’s district working committee meeting here on Tuesday, he said the BJP wanted the Government to be formed on mutual trust but not on stamp paper. Mr. Kumar said that when Mr. Deve Gowda had realised that his party might not survive as the former Home Minister M.P. Prakash might join hands with the Congress, he approached the BJP for help again. “We were not interested in their offer, but we went ahead with the proposal only to avoid mid-term elections which might burden the State exchequer,” he said. “After being let down, the people have now clearly understood how greedy Mr. Gowda’s family is to remain in power,” he said. State party secretary Raghunath Malkapure said that as the dissolution of the Assembly was likely to be announced soon, the party was gearing up for the mid-term elections with renewed vigour. With the objective of highlighting the “betrayal” by the JD(S) and welfare schemes launched by B.S. Yeddyurappa as Deputy Chief Minister, the party had constituted four committees to supervise rallies in all the districts of the State, he said. Mr. Malkapure alleged that the JD(S) had tarnished the image of the State at the national level. “With their greed for power and egocentric politics, the party has brought unprecedented turmoil in the State politics,” he said. He called upon party workers to prepare for the elections by holding booth-level campaigns in the district. District BJP president G.S. Suresh was present.
