BHUBANESWAR: Like its minerals that attract investors from far and wide, Orissa can cash in on its rich cultural heritage for its economic gain, opined Governor M.C.Bhandare while inaugurating ‘Sangam’ - an evening of classical music and dance - at Jayadev Bhawan here on Monday. The event was hosted by New Delhi-based Sanatan Sangeet Sanskriti, a forum set up by the Rai Foundation, in association with the city-based ‘Prikrit’ cultural organisation. The objective of the event is to inculcate a sense of appreciation among the new generation for India’s ancient tradition, heritage and culture, explained Rai Foundation director Mr.Vinay Rai. It offers scholarships to 30 underprivileged girls of the country every year. Bangalore-based Hindustani vocalist Sangeeta Katti Kulkarni, disciple of the legendary Kishori Amonkar, set the mood of the evening with her mesmerising rendition. It was followed by solo Odissi dance recital by New Delhi-based Reela Hota and a duet by two gifted male dancers of city-based Rudrakshya dance institution - Lingaraj Pradhan and Amulya Balbantray. The event concluded with an impressive performnace by New Delhi-based Kathak dancer couple Abhimanyu Lal and Vidha Lal.
