TOWARDS GREENERY: The Coimbatore District Forest Project and Environment Society volunteers distributing saplings of 11 species to educational institutions in the city on Tuesday. — Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Forest Project & Environment Society (CDFPES) has commenced distribution over 5,000 saplings of 11 different species to educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, residential welfare associations and individuals for urban greening project. at a function held at R.S. Puram on Tuesday. They were handed over by the president of CDFPES, N.I. Jalaludeen, secretary, C.V.A. Jaleel and general secretary, Kottai Amir Basha. The species were carefully chosen for urban ambience with focus on shade and flower bearing species. The saplings were sourced from Oddanchattiram and Palani taluks in Dindigul district. The saplings included nelli (phyllanthus emblica), pungan (pongamia pinnata), pulian (tamarindus indica), mandharai (bouchinia purpurea), malai vembu (melia dubia), veppavai (wvightia tintoria), vengai (pterocarpus marsupium), vembu (azadirachta indica), mamaram (mangifera indica) and sorgha maram (simarouba glauca).
