City hospital to conduct 100 cleft lip surgeries

TIRUCHI: The Kavery Medical Centre and Hospital (KMC), in association with Janaki Thyagarajan Trust, have started free consultation camps and surgeries for people with cleft lip and palate.
The KMC, which has conducted 250 free surgeries, has planned to conduct 100 cleft lip surgeries this year.
Cleft lip and palate is a common congenital defect that causes deformity of the face.
Children with cleft lip are affected by respiratory infection.
Post-surgical follow-ups
The post-surgical follow-ups included psychological counselling, which KMC would take care of. In the cleft lip surgery, the shape of the nose might remain uncorrected in most cases.
KMC also offers nose correction surgeries in subsidised cost.
The free consultation camps and surgeries were inaugurated recently.
T.K. Thirunavukarasu, a surgeon, was the chief guest.
